Your doctor measures vital signs for health, but do you know your WELLBEING signs?
The World Health Organization defines WELLBEING as a state of “complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” With that definition, how are you feeling?
Health to most people is the relation of the physical body to the medical field. Your doctor will measure your vital signs - blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and breathing rate - to determine your health. However, your health is more than just your numbers. Wellbeing signs measure the whole-being perspective. Mental health is getting a lot of attention thanks to Simone Biles’ experience during the Olympics of 2020, but have you ever considered the importance of your spiritual or social health?
The Hopeful Healing approach to your health evaluates and empowers ALL aspects of your health. Science proves that long-term high blood pressure will damage the kidneys and vascular system. Psychology shows us that emotional stress is directly related to high blood pressure. Studies show that feeling a strong spiritual connection is related to lowering emotional stress levels. Finally, sociology shows us that just being in communion with another person can lower our blood pressure. So you can see here that blood pressure in the body has its effects, but blood pressure itself can have many causes.
Treatment for blood pressure must include more than just the numbers. It must incorporate emotional, spiritual, and social health aspects to bring about the best results.
